Cal Poly Pomona Art Department
This series is a self study project that creates a brand identity for the art department of California State Polytechnic University of Pomona.
Brand Style Guide
Unlike Laguna College, Cincinnati, Savannah and many other colleges/universities, Cal Poly Pomona’s Art Department does not have their own brand identity. The goal of this project was to design a brand for Cal Poly Pomona’s Art Department.
The typeface used for the logo is an original design named, Barrios Su Sans. The logotype reflects the program’s encouragement of creativity and its teachings of professional aspects of design. The creativity of design in the logo is demonstrated in the cut through each letter forming it to look like a stencil which many artists use to create their art pieces. The professionalism is demonstrated through its readability; the combination of curves and straight lines are used to shape the identity of the letter.
Merchandise
The second portion of the series was to create the Art Department’s own merchandise for the students to wear.
Face Masks
This project presented itself in the beginning of Covid-19 quarantine when society was obligated to wear a mask in public for their safety and the safety of others. Therefore, a mask was placed as a merchandise display for this brand identity series.
Accessories
Accessories is an extended opportunity for the students to demonstrate their love and pride for their department.
Event Poster and ID Passes
The last portion of the series was to design a poster for “Portfolio Day.” An event that the department has for their students where their portfolio can be critiqued. As well as create ID passes for the attendees a potential guest such as one of the most well known Graphic Designer, Milton Glaser.
